The scanner calibrator kit forces the scanner to do the one thing they do the worst, capture an image that is black and white using RGB values. The errors in scanning are easily identified because you know the RGB values. The RGB values are printed on the included target to compare against what the software reports.
This is not really true. Your scanner doesn't calibrate very accurately either. This is one way scanners have gotten so much faster.
The colors that you remember most vividly will be far more accurate. The peel on a lemon or orange and flesh tones are perfect examples of the benefits.
